Episode 2: Faith, Fitness, and Thriving & How They Intertwine
In today's fast-paced world, it's crucial to prioritize our faith, fitness, and overall well-being. I've experienced both ends of the spectrum—living a healthy, active lifestyle and a more sedentary, unhealthy one. Through these experiences, I've realized how interconnected our physical, mental, and spiritual strengths truly are.
When I'm physically strong—whether through a morning walk or going to the gym—my mind becomes clearer, and my emotions feel more balanced. It helps me stay disciplined and resist the negative thoughts and attacks that try to bring me down. This realization inspired Kara nad I to share our message through this blog and podcast. Strengthening our body has empowered us to be stronger in all areas of our life, including our faith.
As we care for our physical health, we must also exercise our spiritual muscles. Just as our physical bodies grow stronger through training, our faith grows when we stretch beyond our comfort zones. As believers, intertwining these aspects of our lives allows us to grow holistically.
A verse that deeply resonates with this message is Matthew 26:41: "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." This passage reminds us of the importance of spiritual readiness. Jesus, facing the ultimate test in the Garden of Gethsemane, called His disciples to stay alert and pray, yet they fell asleep. This moment serves as a reminder that we must be spiritually and physically prepared for life's challenges.
The Armor of God in Ephesians 6 speaks of putting on the full armor of God to stand against the enemy's schemes. This spiritual armor—truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, and the Word of God—is not meant to be put on and taken off at will. It's a permanent protection that we should wear daily. My husband served in the Marine Corps for almost a decade as an infantryman. He was what he calls “boots on the ground,” battling the enemy face-to-face every day. He shares that Marines often had to sleep in their full gear, boots, and everything, thoroughly equipped for battle, knowing the enemy could strike at any moment. We, too, must be spiritually prepared at all times. Our Armor of God is something that should never come off.
Balancing Strength with Humility As we grow stronger physically, it's essential to remember that our strength ultimately comes from God. Philippians 4:13 reminds us, "I can do all things through Him who gives me strength." Fitness and self-care are valuable, but they should always point back to glorifying God, not ourselves. Our purpose is to serve, spread the gospel, and further God's kingdom.
Identity, Purpose, and Assignment (IPA) is a concept that has deeply impacted us. IPA—Identity, Purpose, and Assignment. Our identity as Christians is rooted in Christ. Our purpose is to glorify God in all we do. However, our assignments may shift throughout life. Reflecting on personal trials and struggles often reveals how God is shaping us for our unique assignments.
True strength, both physical and spiritual, is cultivated through discipline, faith, and reliance on God. We may face challenges and spiritual warfare, but God has equipped us with everything we need to stand firm. Remember, our trials are not in vain—they shape us, strengthen us, and prepare us for the calling God has placed on our lives.
Let's continue this journey together—growing stronger in body, mind, and spirit, always giving glory to the One who strengthens us.
Aloha & God bless,
